Weilerbach, October 2, 2025 – After three years of construction, Metall-Kunststoff-Technik GmbH & Co. KG (MKT), a global leader in the fastening industry, officially inaugurated its new production facility at the Weilerbach site on Thursday. Around 400 guests – including project partners, customers, suppliers, and numerous employees – were invited to celebrate this important milestone in the company’s history.
The event received special recognition through the participation of Alexander Schweitzer, Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, who stated:
“MKT in Weilerbach is an outstanding example of the many hidden champions from Rhineland-Palatinate: a family-run company that produces innovative fastening systems for major infrastructure projects worldwide. With its new production hall meeting the Platinum Standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), MKT sets new benchmarks in environmental protection and efficiency. It is particularly gratifying that this expansion was built in the subsidized industrial area ‘Auf dem Immel II’ – a project supported by the state government with around two million euros to secure jobs and foster sustainable growth in the region.”
The expansion, representing an investment of 30 million euros, marks a major milestone in MKT’s corporate development. The additional 15,000 square meters of production space significantly increase capacity, streamline workflows, and provide room for new machinery and modern manufacturing technologies. Production lines that were previously spread across several buildings are now brought together under one roof – a key step toward optimizing processes and strengthening competitiveness.
Initially, around 70 employees will work in the new production halls, which also include integrated functional areas. In the long term, this expansion creates capacity for further growth and additional jobs in the region.
A highlight of the inauguration was the ceremonial presentation of the DGNB Platinum Certificate by Dr. Stephan Anders from the German Sustainable Building Council. With a fulfillment rate of 85.6 percent, MKT operates Germany’s most sustainable production building. The new facility ranks among the first industrial production sites ever to achieve this highest standard – a clear commitment to energy efficiency, resource conservation, and sustainable design principles.
“With this new building, we are investing not only in our future but also in the region and our employees,” emphasized Managing Director Stefan Weustenhagen during his address. “The new production site enables us to expand our capacities while maintaining the highest ecological standards.”
Representatives of the Würth Group, to which MKT has belonged since 2003, also extended their congratulations on the successful commissioning. Bernd Herrmann, Member of the Central Managing Board of the Würth Group, acknowledged the leadership team’s long-standing dedication and commitment.
Designed by architectural firm Plan 7, the new facility impresses with its modern, functional architecture and sustainable energy concept. Alongside highly efficient building technology, particular attention was given to natural lighting, a pleasant indoor climate, and ergonomic workplaces.
With the opening of its new production facility, MKT sends a strong signal for sustainable growth, technological innovation, and the long-term strengthening of the Weilerbach site – reaffirming its role as a reliable partner in fastening technology and as an attractive employer in the region.
