How can children be inspired to take an interest in nature and biodiversity from an early age? The local NABU association in Weilerbach has published a butterfly booklet for children to help achieve this. MKT supported the project as a sponsor.
On September 4, 2026, the project’s initiators from NABU Weilerbach, Mr. Scherer and Dr. Schröder, presented copies of the booklet to Mr. Weustenhagen, Managing Director of MKT. The butterfly booklet was written in collaboration with butterfly expert and co-author Rainer Ulrich.
Discovering native butterflies from a child’s perspective
The booklet is aimed at children and introduces native butterfly species in easy-to-understand rhymes. This child-friendly approach is designed to spark interest in these fascinating creatures and provide an accessible introduction to their natural habitats and way of life.
The booklet focuses not only on individual butterfly species. It also explains how closely biodiversity is connected to natural habitats. In a playful way, children can learn why protecting nature and natural habitats is important and why even small creatures play a valuable role in maintaining ecological balance.
A contribution to environmental awareness and sustainability
For MKT, supporting this project is an opportunity to contribute to the local community and promote awareness of sustainability and the responsible use of natural resources.
Sustainability is an important topic for MKT, which we pursue consistently: We source our steel from Germany and neighboring European countries, with a high proportion of recycled content. On an annual average, 35% of the energy required for production is generated by our own photovoltaic systems. The remainder is purchased as green electricity: Sustainability – MKT Metall-Kunststoff-Technik
